Academic/Professional Experience


2005-Present Franklin University, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Chief Academic Officer. Responsible for academic unit including all undergraduate and graduate programs, full-time faculty, academic staff members, adjunct faculty, and academic operations including the library, Office of the Registrar, and Student Learning Center. He serves as a member of the president's staff and reports directly to the President. Responsibilities include: planning budgets, maintaining fiscal records, leading all efforts to build on the quality of our academic programs and continuing the innovation process within our academic model. He initiates new academic programs, courses, and other offerings based on market needs and available resources. Dr. Washington continuously improves the quality of our people, teams, and collaborations.

2002-2005

Franklin University, Associate Dean and Program Chair, MBA, Graduate
Courses: Professional Effectiveness, Organizational Change, Business Strategy, MBA Orientation. Provide academic leadership to the Ross School of Management and Leadership. Responsibilities included: Reviewing the performance of academic programs and program chairs. Maintaining sound fiscal stewardship by providing oversight of program budgets for academic programs. Representing the School at University Leadership Team or Deans' meetings; Demonstrating program leadership for the largest MBA program in central Ohio by enrollment; Representing the MBA program at professional meetings, as well as with other external and internal constituencies; Approving the course design matrices developed by course development teams to assure program standards and course consistency; and monitored and managed the successful roll out of a revised MBA program curriculum in 2002.

Management System, The Ohio State University. Led a group of 16 staff liaisons in assisting units with change implementation activities. Assisted with change planning, strategic communication, education and performance evaluation efforts for a 60 million dollar re-engineering effort intended to automate human resource, finance, and procurement processes at the Ohio State University.

1995-2002 Independent Management Consultant, Designed and facilitated strategic and project planning sessions for groups within diverse organizations including but not limited to The City of Columbus, Moody/Nolan LTD, MCI/WorldCom, Bellevue Public Library, United Way, Ohio State University's Office of Finance, American Red Cross, Office of Minority Affairs, OhioLink, Action for Children, Sarcom Inc., Crittendon Family Services, Choices, Columbus Metropolitan Library and numerous branches. Conducted needs assessment interviews, analyzed survey research data, and analyzed human resource databases to identify reasons for initiating management development programs for Huntington National Bank; Conducted an analysis of over 50 job positions for Eddie Bauer/Spiegel Distribution Fulfillment Services; Conducted a benchmarking study in order to identify a variety of strategies for administering HRD programs within the banking industry; Served as an advisor to Ashland Chemical's Diversity Planning Group; and Facilitated on-site staff development programs for a variety of organizations including such diverse groups as Retail Planning Associates, Columbus Division of Water, Upper Arlington Leadership Council, Ohio Library Council, the Ohio Department of Development, and Sarcom.

1994-1997 The Ohio State University, Human Resource Development Consultant. Responsible for serving the University by delivering continuous quality improvement consulting and training, performance management system design and support, supervisor and manager training and staff development. Facilitated a variety of groups in needs assessment and analysis, problem solving, workflow design, strategic planning, and other group processes; Designed and delivered training and development programs for faculty, supervisory, staff and consultant groups; and Co-chaired the University Training and Development Coalition.
