Profile

Dr. Andy Igonor is an Information Technology and Security professional with over 20 years of academic and professional experience working across different industries including Healthcare, Finance and Telecommunications. His experience includes using his knowledge of security tools, techniques and best practices to help create and deploy solutions that protect systems and information assets, especially for clients in healthcare. He worked on major projects with the Brandon Healthcare Trust, UK; Health Canada; the Physician Office System Program (POSP), Alberta, Canada; and the Business Development Bank of Canada, in the areas of security threat and risk assessments of cloud-deployed solutions, privacy impact assessments, and the development of security architectures. He has also been involved in the selection and implementation of electronic health records (EHR) systems, as well as Enterprise Resource Planning systems including SAP, Microsoft Dynamics (GP, NAV), SAGE, Exact etc. for large, small and medium sized clients.

He spent the last decade working as an Assistant Professor in Information Security at Concordia University in Alberta, and more recently as Chair of Business, and Instructional Faculty in Information Systems at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology where he also chaired Curriculum, and Applied Research. He also worked as a Partner in a consulting firm with major clients in Healthcare and Finance. He has co-authored textbooks, and published peer-reviewed articles in the field. His research interests include understanding security risks of healthcare applications and systems (including health information exchanges), security compliance in healthcare, web application SQL injection attacks and cloud computing. He is also interested in “Security Analytics” and "Big Data CyberSecurity". He is of the opinion that businesses have a lot of data from logs, security information and event management ISIEM) tools and devices that capture what is going on, but require an automated method to decipher and use the data in a meaningful way.

Andy's has worked and lived in Nigeria, South Africa, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Canada and the US. He holds a PhD in Information Systems from the Bristol Business School (UK) and certifications such as the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC). He is an inveterate soccer and tennis fan.
