Carl Bricker, RN
Assistant Nurse Manager
Riverside Methodist Hospital
B.S. in Healthcare Management
Why did you choose Franklin University?
Both my supervisors– people I highly respect– earned their degrees in Healthcare Management from Franklin. They told me, “If you want to get into management, this is the best route for you.” I took their advice.
How did you feel about being an adult student?
I liked learning from other adults in my classes. Some of my management classmates came from different fields, not just healthcare, so I got a feel for management from different perspectives– which sure helped improve my own leadership skills.
What other commitments did you have while attending Franklin?
I have five kids, from a teenager down to a toddler. Taking classes online is definitely the way to go when you have a lot on your plate! I can study while my wife is at work or when the kids are in bed– it all depends on what best meets our needs. Maintaining a 4.0 GPA set the bar high and I hope it will encourage my children to keep up their grades as well.
Any thoughts about online learning?
For a guy who didn't even own a computer until two weeks before I took my first class at Franklin, I've become a real believer in the strength of online learning.
What was your overall experience with Franklin?
I got a great education. It's amazing, every single class I took I used on the job, which shows the Healthcare Management Major is really set up well. And it was a great journey, coming this far. I wouldn't trade the time I've put into my education at Franklin for anything. I learned exactly what I need to know to keep moving ahead in my career.
Any words of advice for future Franklin students?
For busy parents, or even just for people who work long hours and can't get to a class, Franklin is the way to go!
