Spotlight on Courtney Roben
|
Courtney Roben I decided to pursue a master's degree because I wanted to be challenged and needed to broaden my horizons. I chose Franklin University’s Vantage MBA® Program because the curriculum gave me a big picture of professional possibilities. Plus, the flexibility allowed me to maintain a full-time work schedule while attending classes in Dublin, which was very convenient for me. |

With an bachelor's degree in marketing and expertise in the insurance industry, the Vantage MBA Program helped bring out elements of myself I didn’t even know were part of me – both professionally and personally. For example, I feel that I learned to be a better leader. I’m more thoughtful about what I say and how I deliver my messages. This has been helpful in my position as a manager with the eighth largest insurance brokerage firm in the United States, where I apply leadership skills with people of different generations. The teamwork courses were especially pertinent and enlightening, because business is all about working in teams. The funny thing is, I didn’t even realize how truly helpful this new “people knowledge” was until I found myself unconsciously applying it with my staff. I really believe this knowledge directly influenced my ability to bring about positive change in a rather resistant environment. Also, the project management subject matter helped me gain confidence in creating and implementing a project plan. This experience has helped me move forward in my career. As an adult student, the challenges I learned to overcome were similar to most working adults: balancing work, school and personal life. While at Franklin, I was also busy planning my wedding, which took place just a few months after I graduated. It was a testament to Franklin’s manageable schedule that I maintained an “A” average. So the statement that Franklin promotes, “Franklin makes it possible” was definitely true for me. |
