I had been pursuing my degree for a while – off and on for nine years – because it was such an important goal for me. In 1999, I transferred to Franklin from a major university because Franklin’s schedule was much more accommodating to my needs. I took a year off when my twins Hannah and Tyler were born, and I graduated in May 2006. At Franklin, I found it encouraging to be surrounded in class by others who were in similar situations – struggling to juggle it all. In fact, if it weren’t for the realistic schedule and adult-learning approach, I don’t think the process would have been as enjoyable and rewarding as it was for me and many of my Franklin friends. In addition to the student interaction, the highlight of my Franklin experience was the faculty. Their real-world understanding of business provided a fresh perspective to the lessons they taught. This has proven valuable in my present work, as well as in providing a foundation of knowledge that will help me achieve my career goals. The guidance and instruction I received has helped me improve in many ways – from strengthening my self-confidence to sharpening the clarity of my ambitions. My words of encouragement: Don’t give up. Don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself to finish in four years. Everybody has obstacles to overcome, and with patience and perseverance, you can earn your degree too. |
