Spotlight on Lisa Rusak

Lisa Rusak For me, returning to college meant learning all over again how to set aside time for studies and overcoming my apprehension of not being able to succeed. Going back to school has given me a renewed confidence and a realization that I can do anything I set my mind to. |

Years later, when my son grew more independent and was old enough to understand the value of school, I decided it was time to set an example for him by finishing my college education. Now, my son thinks it’s pretty neat that we’re both in school. Together we have confronted and resolved time management issues. That is one skill that I acquired from Franklin University which has made both my son and me better students. Actually, returning to college has been a great experience for me in many ways. Taking courses has helped bolster my sense of self-worth and given me the confidence to return to the workforce as well. I was a stay-at-home mom for a number of years. Though that role was wonderful, rewarding, and busy in its own way, I needed the fresh college experience to give me knowledge that would really be worth something to an employer. Now I am a productive, appreciated and fulfilled Controller for Bockrath Carpet and Oriental Rugs, where my education applies directly to my job. I am able to work effectively and efficiently because my studies help me see the big picture of business. I am able to understand how my job’s functions impact the bottom line. In fact, many of my suggestions have been implemented and are contributing to our company’s growth! All this is happening with discipline and effort, of course. Nothing worthwhile really comes easily. I am motivated and determined, and therefore, gaining the satisfaction of moving closer to my goal to earn my B.S. in Accounting! This goal is attractive – and one that my husband and son are nearly as excited for me to complete as I am. |
