Spotlight on Tina Sadoo

Tina Sadoo
Business Administration Student

I transferred to Franklin University from Columbus State Community College to further develop the skills I need to move along in my career.

I am from the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Lucia. I discovered Columbus, Ohio when a relative moved here, and I followed in order to attend Columbus State Community College. After graduating four years ago with an associate’s degree in Hospitality Management, I returned to my country and enjoyed working in my chosen profession at a prestigious resort. After working with guests and all levels of employees at the resort, I realized I next wanted to move into management. I also realized that in order to make this happen, I would need to further educate myself.

I chose Franklin University to complete my bachelor's degree in Business Administration because I was already familiar with Columbus. Also, my credits from the community college were easily transferred.

From the very first meeting with my Student Services Associate, I knew I'd selected well. She designed a clear education path for me — all I have to do is be faithful to it and excel in each course. I am benefiting from my experience at Franklin, and have encountered many impressive and ambitious classmates along the way.

Actually, because of what I am learning and through the interactions with class members, I'm considering continuing my education journey by obtaining my Vantage MBA™ too. Doing so would help my ambitions even more, as ultimately I would like to own and operate my own hotel. The leadership knowledge offered in the Vantage MBA would be extremely useful.

We'll see! There is still much to accomplish as I overcome the many challenges that I face as an international student. For example, I don't have my own transportation right now, so getting to and from my classes can be difficult because I am staying with people who live in a suburb of Columbus. For this reason, I am planning to take some of my classes online — especially in the coming cold winter months.

It's wonderful that Franklin gives me so many options to help me succeed on my degree path, and helps to open so many doors for my career. I am excited to be back in Columbus and headed toward a future filled with promise!
