Community Outreach Assistant

Responsibilities
This position will serve as an onsite assistant at one of 11 Central Ohio YMCA facilities, providing classroom support for children from infants to middle school age. The Community Outreach Assistant will work with children one-on-one and in small groups, providing academic support through tutoring, and homework assistance, as well as child care and general administrative support. Specific duties will vary based on location.

Africentric Early College also has Community Outreach tutoring opportunities. This position will concentrate on assisting fourth and fifth grade students in the areas of Math and Science. The purpose will be to better prepare the students for proficiency testing.

Hours of Work
YMCA - Hours available will vary depending on location selected, but centers are generally open 7 am-6 pm. Schedules are flexible as far as what days and times fit into your schedule. Two to three hour sessions are recommended.

Africentric – Hours available will depend on candidate’s schedule, as well as school hours. There is much flexibility offered between the hours of 9 am-3:30 pm. Eligible candidates can work up to 25 hours a week.

Qualifications
• Excellent people skills, enthusiasm for helping children, and respectful attitude
• Creative and enthusiastic when covering lesson plans and reading selected books
• Excellent reading skills and willingness to share your love of learning
• Dependable and prompt
• Work independently and follow direction of supervising teacher
General Requirements (upon offer of opportunity)
• Candidates must pass a state and federal background check – Africentric & YMCA
• Successfully complete a medical examination – YMCA only
• Provide three completed reference forms prior to being placed – YMCA only

All candidates must be current Franklin students, and have Federal Work Study eligibility.
