ESL/ESP Immersion Adjunct Urbana

Franklin University and its partner institution, Urbana University, is hiring 1-2 adjunct faculty for it’s dynamic new ESL/ESP Immersion program located at the Urbana University campus. Successful applicants will teach full time in this 3 month residential, non-credit experiential program for Junior and Senior level students in engineering and business programs in Mexico.

The program provides a combination of intensive English instruction through integrated-skills course work, diverse and engaging cultural activities linked to project-based learning, and direct engagement with the Urbana campus and business communities. The program is designed to provide participants with a true cultural and linguistic immersion experience.
Ideal applicants are willing to participate enthusiastically in the cultural events and activities, demonstrate a true commitment to creating an excellent student experience inside and outside the classroom, possess a profound ability to adapt to and function within an atmosphere of great flux, and above all, understand how to manage the individual classroom while operating as part of a very close-knit team.   

Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work a T-Sat workweek: Teaching 4 hours per day/4 days per week (T-F) and facilitating Saturday events for 2-4 hours • Support student participation in program activities by working with the Academic Program Director to develop materials for class designed to scaffold cultural and professional events • Work with students individually, as required • Assist in planning and executing weekly field trips and activities (although attendance only required for the Saturday activies) • Prepare end-of-term evaluations for each student taught  • Attend staff meetings

Position Requirements:

• Master's degree (or imminent completion of one) in TESOL or related field • At least 1-2 years of ESL teaching experience • Native or native-like proficiency in American English • Sensitivity to international students of all cultural backgrounds
• Demonstrated teaching ability • Ability to travel 4 days per week to Urbana University campus • Experience leading second-language acquisition activities experience in a liberal arts setting is preferred • Fluency in a language other than English is preferred

Benefits:

While this is a non-benefited, 3-month, adjunct contract, it is full time hours on a single campus. Free shared on-campus housing is also available as an option (private room with shared living and kitchen area). Program start date is scheduled for late February.
