Financial Aid Counselor

Franklin University is seeking an individual for the position of Financial Aid Counselor. The primary job responsibility is advising students on the financial aid process, applicant eligibility, payment alternatives, debt management, Special Circumstances, Standards of Academic Progress, R2T4, and Verification issues. Additional responsibilities include reviewing and processing Special Circumstance and Standards of Academic Progress appeals, assisting with Federal Verification, Community College Alliance Program, and the Franklin Scholarship Program. Financial Aid counselors are also required to participate in university events which may include presenting financial aid information.


The successful candidate will have excellent organizational and analytical skills, knowledge of financial aid compliance requirements, strong counseling skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized financial systems required; Datatel Colleague experience is preferred. Proven attention to detail and ability to manage high volumes of activity, along with the ability to exercise sound judgment in considering individual circumstances is a must.  Knowledge of accounting principles and any technical background is preferred.  A Bachelor’s Degree with prior experience in a Financial Aid office is required.
