Franklin University has a full-time position available for a Network Engineer. Responsibilities include implementing, and supporting core switching, firewalls, Wireless LANs (WLAN), Site-to-Site and remote access Virtual Private Networks (VPN), Voice Over IP (VOIP), authentication, monitoring, fault tolerance and high availability configurations, as well as datacenter operational components. This person works as part of a team to perform engineering evaluations and recommend alterations to the University Network infrastructure to improve quality of service and/or procedures. This person will also be responsible for maintaining efficient and trouble free operations of the University WAN/LAN infrastructure. The Network Engineer will work to maintain network documentation as well as operational and procedural manuals for Franklin University’s network infrastructure.
This position requires experience with network, security, wireless, and VOIP equipment and software. Experience with Cisco ASA, ACE, IPS, VOIP, and wireless equipment is preferred. Other qualifications include experience with WAN and LAN technologies and protocols such as OSPF, BGP, HSRP, VPN, Switching, Trunking. VLAN, NAT, ACL, SNMP, ISDN, dial backups, leased lines, and structured cabling. A candidate for this position should also have knowledge of Data Center configuration and maintenance. This may include wiring network cables across various racks, installing new servers in their appropriate locations, helping test and troubleshoot new server hardware components and designs, installing switches, routers, and other networking gear.
A B.S. in a related field is preferred as well as three years of experience supporting networks in a Data Center or campus environment. Certification as a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is preferred. The position requires a technically skilled individual with good analytical skills and a strong work ethic to join a team responsible for planning, deploying, and maintaining the infrastructure supporting 24/7 international operations at Franklin University.
