Senior Network Engineer
Franklin University has a full-time position available for a Senior Network Engineer. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and supporting core switching, WAN architecture, Wireless LANs (WLAN), Site-to-Site and remote access Virtual Private Networks (VPN), Unified Communications, authentication, vulnerability assessment, remediation, monitoring, fault tolerance and high availability configurations, as well as datacenter operational components. This person performs engineering evaluations and recommends alterations to the University Network infrastructure to improve quality of service and/or procedures. They may be called upon to develop a range of technology solutions that align with the University goals. This person will also be responsible for maintaining efficient and trouble free operations of the University WAN/LAN infrastructure. The Senior Network Engineer will take a lead in maintaining Network design documentation as well as operational and procedural manuals for Franklin University’s network infrastructure.
This position requires experience with network, security, wireless, and unified communications equipment and software. Experience with Cisco ASA, ACE, IPS, Unified Communications, and wireless equipment is preferred. Other qualifications include experience with WAN and LAN technologies and protocols such as OSPF, BGP, HSRP, VPN, Switching, Trunking. VLAN, NAT, ACL, SNMP, ISDN, dial backups, leased lines, and structured cabling. A candidate for this position should also have knowledge of Data Center configuration and maintenance. This may include wiring network cables across various racks, installing new servers in their appropriate locations, helping test and troubleshoot new server hardware components and designs, install switches, routers, and other networking gear.
A B.S.in Computer Science or a related field is required as well as 4-6 years in a computer related discipline. Certification as a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is required and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification is preferred. Cisco voice certification is a plus. The candidate must possess and cultivate a strong customer-centered philosophy. The position requires a technically skilled individual with good analytical skills and a strong work ethic to join a team responsible for planning, deploying, and maintaining the infrastructure supporting 24/7 international operations at Franklin University.
