Web Developer

Franklin University, a private not-for-profit institution located in Columbus, Ohio has the need for a full-time Hybrid Front-End/Back-End Web Developer.  The primary responsibilities of this position are for the design, development, and maintenance of vertically aligned, complete features in our custom desktop and mobile web applications.  Responsibilities include creation of focused, user centered interfaces, from brainstorming to programming, creation of back-end business logic, including server side programming and database construction, and integration work between these two layers of application architecture.  The ideal candidate will possess a highly refined sense of graphical design and user experience as well as mastery of software engineering principles and practices.  A portfolio of previous work is required.  The selected individual will be part of an on call rotation one week per month providing Tier II support.


This position requires someone with a Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in computer science, web design, or related area, or the equivalent through a combination of education and work experience and two to five years’ experience as a designer or developer in a multimedia or information technology environment.  We seek someone with advanced working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Jquery, AJAX, Java, Hibernate, and mySQL.  In addition, the selected individual must have working knowledge of interface design and coding for mobile devices, be able to clearly communicate ideas and concepts and have highly developed decision making, analytical and problem solving skills.    We prefer someone who can proactively identify and remedy issues or gaps in design at a conceptual level with strong knowledge of current and emerging web technologies, usage, and best practices.  Experience with responsive web design and in an Agile environment is a plus.
