Globalization of Higher Education

Today’s society functions on a global scale, with boundaries being erased, and the full world’s presence felt closer and closer to home. Nations no longer solely rely on domestic resources to operate. Rapid improvements in technology have fostered an environment that allows organizations to work as easily with partners across the globe easily as those located one floor away.
As the educators of tomorrow’s workforce, it is incumbent upon institutions of higher education to adopt this same globalized perspective in their approach to learning and access. By doing so, higher education institutions provide a key to unlocking human potential. This key opens doors and expands opportunities and freedoms. It contributes to fostering peace, democracy and economic growth as well as improving health and reducing poverty.
By collaborating with international partners in curriculum development as well as through classroom interactions, educators have the privilege of experiencing a diversity of students and cultural differences. Through this experience a broader perspective and knowledge is developed which can be incorporated into curriculum and used to bring a global competitive edge into the coursework. In turn, students domestically and abroad become adaptive to cultures, responsive to challenges, and successful in a global marketplace.
Students from around the world share a common goal of educational attainment. Providing the academic programming needed for this attainment provides the catalyst for this attainment as well as develops the global expertise needed in today’s global community.
