Columbus, OH —

FranklinUniversity, a leading educator of working adults in Central Ohio, is proud to have once again demonstrated the importance of bringing together theory and practice by joining this year’s Hospital Executive Job Shadowing Day in conjunction with the Higher Education Network of the Greater Ohio Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).

Through this year’s February event, 27 students in healthcare management programs were paired to shadow executives from areas across the state, providing a behind the scenes look into the multi-faceted world of hospital administration.  The annual event matches healthcare management students with healthcare executives from hospitals around Ohio for a one-day experience.  Students interested in participating in Shadowing Day specify their areas of interest and the type of healthcare environment they prefer.

Dr. Leslie King, Lead Faculty within Franklin’s Healthcare Management Programs, facilitated this year’s Shadow Day, coordinating the selection of students from three universities, the solicitation of hospital executives across the state, and the pairing of each group. With over 20 years of experience in clinical laboratory and healthcare education and a wide range of administrative, managerial, and technical experience in a variety of clinical and laboratory healthcare environments, Dr. King understands the importance of pairing real-world experience with academic theory for students interested in the healthcare management industry.

“Healthcare is one of the fastest growing fields and healthcare organizations need managers with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience necessary to keep pace with industry trends,” said King.  “Students interested in this field need to be equipped with more than just theory.  Providing this shadowing opportunity provides a unique perspective to this growing industry that can’t be found in the classroom.”

The Healthcare Management Major at Franklin University meets the leadership needs of the fast-growing healthcare industry. Students are exposed to a wide array of subjects emphasizing leadership, team building, performance management, and ethics, providing the skills and knowledge needed to enter mid-level healthcare management positions or prepare for graduate school.
