New Social Media Design Major Announced

Franklin University, a leading educator of working adults, is pleased to announce the addition of its new Social Media Design (SMD) Bachelor of Science degree to the College of Arts, Sciences & Technology on-campus and online offerings beginning in Fall 2012.
The SMD Major can help graduates build a passion for all things social into a cutting-edge career as a social media designer or customer dialogue strategist for businesses and not-for profit organizations. Organizations today are realizing the importance of social media and making large investments in this phenomenon and the people who manage it. The Franklin SMD Major offers an accessible, viable opportunity to build on this growing need. Through this transfer-friendly major, graduates will be prepared to create focused social media strategies, as well as manage the social presence of people, products, and organizations using social media tools.
The number of social media job postings has increased by more than 600% in the past 7 years, posting 21,000 jobs on Indeed.com in May 2010 as social media rapidly becomes an integral part of our societal fabric.
Franklin’s SMD hands-on curriculum develops communication, marketing, and design skills needed to meet a growing demand while fully supporting, designing, and developing social media projects.
Graduates of this major can create their own niche in a growing industry to:
- Design, develop, and manage communication and content in an interactive dialog on a web or mobile platform.
- Generate an environment that encourages user-generated content that effectively communicates an individual or organization’s mission.
- Manage the design and development process for social media projects.
- Utilize team dynamics to collaboratively design and develop social media.
- Design content and information for multiple social media platforms.
Graduates of Franklin’s Social Media Design Major will be well-qualified to hold positions as a Customer Dialogue Strategist, Interactive Content Specialist, Manager of Customer Engagement, Social Media Manager, Social Media Designer, or Social Media Project Leader.
The B.S.-Social Media Design is just one of the new undergraduate majors available at Franklin. The University also added a B.S.-Information Systems Auditing, a B.S.-Public Administration, and a B.S.-Healthcare Information Management to its Fall 2012 offerings.
