Columbus, OH —
Franklin University, one of the leading educators of working adults in central Ohio, is pleased to host its third annual Learning Showcase: A Celebration of Discovery, Transformation and Success. The event, hosted in partnership with the Columbus Metropolitan Library, Columbus State Community College and the Columbus College of Art & Design, will take place tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 7 from 4-6 p.m. in the library's newly renovated space.
First hosted in 2014, this unique poster has evolved into an event that honors the innovative work of students, faculty, nonprofit, government and business partners both in the United States and abroad. It provides a unique opportunity to encourage and foster partnerships and collaborations among universities, colleges and industry while including those who may not normally have a venue for recognition and sharing of ideas, theories, research, evaluations and other societal contributions.
Event organizers are pleased to announce this year’s event will feature posters submitted from as far away as Kenya, Africa and presenters such as Eastway Behavioral Healthcare, one of the largest and most comprehensive not-for-profit organizations serving Ohio residents struggling with mental illness.
“Across the country, colleges and universities have found that research is a powerful tool for learning and real-world success,” said Dr. David Decker, President, Franklin University. “At Franklin University, we share this understanding and organized this Learning Showcase to promote the development and exchange of knowledge among university educators, students, partners, businesses, industry, and non-profit organizations.”
Judge Paul Herbert, Franklin County Municipal Court, will deliver the keynote speech. Among his many accomplishments, Judge Herbert is credited with starting a specialized program focusing on Human Trafficking victims who have been charged with the misdemeanor offense of solicitation known as CATCH (changing actions to change habits). Through his efforts, women now have a safe path to exit the dangerous lifestyle, are often reunited with their families, not committing new offenses, and furthering their educations and giving back to the community in significant ways. In 2015, Judge Herbert was recognized by the United States Justice Department and received an award from Attorney General Eric Holder for his contributions in the fight against Human Trafficking.
