Columbus, Ohio - Franklin University, a leading educator of working adults, is pleased to announce the addition of a new Applied Psychology major to its on-campus and online offerings beginning in Fall 2009. In this new major, students will learn to apply positive psychology methods to assessment, intervention planning, coaching and mentoring, and evaluating organizational change programs.
Students who earn a degree in Applied Psychology from Franklin University can make a positive impact on the development of individuals, teams, and communities.
Psychology is a field of study with broad professional and personal applications. By providing an Applied Psychology major focusing on the development of individuals within organizations that includes business-related studies in the major area of course work, Franklin provides an advantage for students interested in employment in business and organizational settings. An undergraduate major in Applied Psychology also prepares students for careers in human service professions and readies students for admission to graduate and professional schools.
Psychology is the third most popular academic major in the nation, behind only education and business, according to the American Psychological Association (APA). Earning a degree in Applied Psychology offers broad life-application opportunities in any industry and lays a solid foundation for graduate school. While some graduates who hold a psychology degree choose to pursue graduate studies in psychology or a related field, a majority find employment in for-profit, government, and non-profit organizations.
Franklin's Applied Psychology major will give students the added advantage of acquiring social and behavioral science knowledge to realize more of their own potential, make the most of organizational opportunities, employ assessment instruments and procedures for intervention planning, and apply coaching methods to strengthen the performance of individuals and work teams. The emphasis on practical knowledge and skills serves to benefit employers having positions in emerging areas of psychology applications such as career development, management coaching, human resource management, psychosocial effectiveness training, performance assessment, and employee relations.
Graduates of Franklin's Applied Psychology Major will be well-qualified for positions requiring strong communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
