Franklin University Expands
Far Eastern Reach

Columbus, Ohio -Franklin University is pleased to announce it has signed an agreement with Vietnam National University (VNU) in Hanoi, Vietnam.  The signing of this latest international agreement expands Franklin's role as a global institution of higher learning and serves to further deepen the University's relationships in the Far East.

In a recent visit to Hanoi, Klaus Haberich, Senior Vice President for Planning and Global Programs, signed a cooperation agreement with VNU officials that enables VNU to offer the Franklin University MBA to its students.  Once anticipated regulatory approval is granted, the Franklin MBA program will be made available to Vietnamese students in classes held on VNU's campus in Hanoi with the participation of Franklin faculty members.

"The signing of this agreement with VNU allows Franklin University, an institution known for its expertise in providing access to career-relevant education, to strengthen its position as an exporter of high-value-added educational services, which benefits both the Ohio and the national economy," said Haberich.   "This agreement with Vietnam National University will allow Franklin to participate in the Far East's rapidly growing higher education market" he said. "By providing Franklin's intellectual capital to students in Vietnam, we will assist in accelerating the development of local management expertise while contributing to the globalization of our own institution."

Vietnam National University was established in 1906 as the country's first modern university and remains one of only two national universities in Vietnam. VNU is the largest comprehensive higher education and research center in Vietnam, entrusted with the task of producing highly qualified human resources and talent for the industrialization and modernization of the country. The University holds a special position in the country's higher education system, as it reports directly to the Prime Minister. VNU has a high degree of autonomy in organization - personnel, training programs, scientific research and technological development, planning and finance, international relations and other fields. Vietnam's capital city of Hanoi, where VNU is located, is on the right bank of the Red River.  October 2010 will officially mark the city's 1,000 year anniversary.

"Many foreign colleges are interested in partnerships such as this to utilize our expertise in business programs and to supplement their own MBA with an English-language MBA," Haberich said.  "Many of these institutions find that collaborating with faculty members from Franklin is more effective than launching programs on their own."

Today's announcement marks Franklin University's sixth international program.  The University currently participates in agreements with the Wroclaw School of Banking in Poland, the University St. Kliment Ohridski-Bitola in Macedonia, Mangalore University in India, Sichuan University in China, and the University of Economics in Bratislava in the Slovak Republic.
