Franklin University Designated Military Friendly Schools

In Post-9/11 GI Bill era, list offers veterans guidance on which schools are doing the most to embrace them as students

Columbus, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pa. - G.I. Jobs names Franklin University as part of its 2010 list of Military Friendly Schools. The list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools doing the most to embrace America's veterans as students. Schools on the list range from state universities and private colleges to community colleges and trade schools. The common bond is their shared priority of recruiting students with military experience.

"Students with military experience bring a high degree of maturity, life experiences, diversity, leadership and worldliness to the classroom which serves to enhance the academic desired outcome," said Darrin Adams, Director of Military Relations at Franklin University. "Veterans and current service members and their families offer a unique perspective that can benefit both students and faculty."

The 2010 list was compiled through exhaustive research starting last May during which G.I. Jobs polled more than 7,000 schools nationwide. Methodology, criteria and weighting for the list were developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) consisting of educators and administrators from Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Toledo, Duquesne University, Coastline Community College and Lincoln Technical Institute.

"This list is especially important now because the recently enacted Post-9/11 GI Bill has given veterans virtually unlimited financial means to go to school," said Rich McCormack, G.I. Jobs publisher. "Veterans can now enroll in any school, provided they're academically qualified. So schools are clamoring for them like never before. Veterans need a trusted friend to help them decide where to get educated. The Military Friendly Schools list is that trusted friend."

A full story and detailed list of Military Friendly Schools will be highlighted in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools. A new Web site, found at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com, will launch in September with interactive tools and search functionality to assist military veterans in choosing schools that best meet their educational needs.

Criteria for making the Military Friendly Schools list included efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting military and veteran students and academic accreditations.

Today's announcement is a testament to Franklin University's commitment to serving those who serve our country and compliments its 2008 Top Military Friendly Colleges and Universities designation awarded by Military Advanced Education (MAE) magazine. Honorees for the 2008 designation were selected by an independent panel of judges from the fields of both education and the military. Selections were based on each institution's favorable policies toward the men and women serving in uniform. MAE covers issues and trends in distance learning and education as they specifically relate to military life, including innovative programs, military educational policy, financial aid, and coursework that offer special opportunities for military personnel.
