Columbus, Ohio - Franklin University, a leading educator of working adults, is pleased to announce the addition of a new Interdisciplinary Studies major to its on-campus and online offerings beginning in Fall 2009.
Franklin's new Interdisciplinary Studies major is designed to provide students interested in gaining a broad-based perspective, and a unique 360 degree approach to critical thinking and problem solving, the skills needed for careers in areas such as public service, not-for-profits, and education.
According to statistics from the U.S. Department of labor, the average person changes jobs 10 times over the course of their career. More and more, these career changes are dictated rather than voluntarily decided. Now more than ever, students with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies have a distinct advantage over others in the workforce: the flexibility to adapt to a changing environment, and the ability to move outside of silos imposed by traditional, more discipline-based degree programs.
Students entering Franklin's new Interdisciplinary Studies major also have the advantage of being able to apply appropriate, previously earned credits into the program, and then, working with faculty members, will choose focus areas to customize a learning experience unique to their career interests and aptitudes. Students graduating with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies will be able to analyze situations, synthesize solutions to complex problems and then, through a personalized electronic portfolio, provide practical examples of their work to current or prospective employers.
Graduates of Franklin's Interdisciplinary Studies program will be well-qualified for a wide variety of positions in the areas of business, industry, sales, non-profit, government and public service.
