Franklin University Commits to Sustainability

Columbus, Ohio - Franklin University, one of the leading educators of working adults in central Ohio, is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Sept. 11 - 13 MORPC Summit on Sustainability and the Environment, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.  The summit provides a holistic look at sustainability issues impacting central Ohio with the goal of inspiring attendees to create positive change in the region.

Franklin University appreciates the value and need for an event such as the MORPC Summit on Sustainability.  The University also understands the role institutions of higher education have in helping students gain the knowledge and skills they need to succeed on the job, by enabling them to serve as leaders in their organizations, communities, and families in order to create a better world for current and future generations.

Rather than simple throw financial support toward this year's summit, a group of Franklin University faculty members have formed an Academic Sustainability Team to recommend methods for integrating economic, environmental, health, social, and other sustainability issues into its curriculum to ensure the needs of the present are met without compromising the ability of future generations to provide for themselves.

Over the past few months, this Academic Sustainability Team has been working to establish ways in which it can increase sustainability through the collective efforts of the University and our students.  Assignments concerning sustainability will also be incorporated into Franklin courses such as Cultural Anthropology, Economics, Environmental Science, and Leading Project Teams.

Franklin's sponsorship and participation (14 Franklin University faculty members will participate as facilitators at the Summit and Franklin's President, Dr. David Decker, will be a featured speaker) in this year's MORPC Summit, as well as incorporating sustainability concepts into curriculum, highlight the University's commitment to providing the tools needed to enable students and attendees at this year's summit to truly make a difference in changing the direction of our future.
