Columbus, Ohio - Franklin University, a leading educator of working adults, is announcing the addition of two new majors to its on-campus and online offerings. Beginning in Winter 2009, Public Relations and Operations & Supply Chain Management will be added to Franklin University’s Undergraduate majors, giving Franklin students more career options than ever before.
Reputation- and relationship-focused, the Public Relations major is designed to help students develop and maintain a positive public image for organizations, helping to strengthen current and future external relationships by mastering the written, verbal, and visual elements that go into building an effective public image.
The Public Relations major at Franklin University teaches students how public relations can be used to support and promote broad aspects of business operations; find creative ways to generate no-cost marketing opportunities and strategic relationships with community organizations; learn to create press pitches and releases that get noticed by media outlets; develop PR materials and campaigns for new media such as blogs, Web sites, podcasts, and streaming video; study crisis communication, ethics, and research methodologies; and network with professionals from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Graduates of the Public Relations major will be well-qualified for positions such as PR Manager, Communications Specialist, Media Writer, Director of Community Relations, Feature Writer, Account Executive, and Event Planner.
Using advanced analytical methods to form sound decisions, Franklin’s Operations & Supply Chain Management major provides students with the skills to improve product flow and streamline operational efficiency in any industry. With this process and analytics-driven major, students will learn the operations management steps necessary to take control of an organization's processes to deliver a product or service before it is offered to the public.
Operations & Supply Chain Management students will explore methods of quality management, lean processes, and product and service development; learn to direct transportation, logistics, outsourcing, and other operations functions; develop skills in managing projects and programs; study how globalization affects an organization’s operations and supply chain; explore the roles operations and supply chains play in the response to natural and non-natural crises; discover how “green” initiatives and environmental regulations change operations and supply chain environment; and gain insights from professional societies like the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) and the Association for Operations Management (APICS).
Graduates of the Operations & Supply Chain Management major will be well-qualified for positions such as Supply Chain Manager, Product Manager, Chief Operating Officer, Director of Operations, and Project Manager.
