Announces Robert L. Bailey Teaching Award Recipients

 

 

Columbus, Ohio – Franklin University, one of the leading educators of working adults in central Ohio, celebrated its 129th Commencement in a ceremony held Sunday, August 18, 2008.  Along with congratulating the graduates, Franklin also recognized Jana L. Highwart and Alisa DiSalvo from its faculty as recipients of the distinguished Robert L. Bailey Teaching Award.

Jana Highwart has been an instructor in Franklin’s Vantage MBA Program since 1998, teaching Financial Reporting and Accountability, Executive Financial Decisions, and Promoting Growth, along with multiple sections of Accounting and Computer Science courses. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Franklin in 1990 and her MBA from Franklin in 1995.  Highwart has nearly two decades of professional experience with a commitment to continuous quality improvement and an emphasis on applying the latest technology and software resources.  As the owner of aMeBA resource, she works as  an independent consultant, forming strategic alliances and providing implementation and support services for Sage Software, along with developing customized solutions using database applications.  She also serves as a Professional Services Consultant for Galaxy Technologies, Inc., providing remote value-added services to Galaxy clients in a diverse spectrum of industries.  Highwart was also selected for the Robert L. Bailey Teaching Award in 2004 and 2006.

Alisa DiSalvo has been an Accounting instructor at Franklin for more than six years, teaching both online and face-to-face classes. She received her undergraduate degree from Otterbein College and her MBA with a Finance concentration from Franklin. Her successful professional career spans public and private accounting and technology fields.  DiSalvo has worked with Fortune 500 companies auditing manufacturing processes, trend analysis, and transportation cost analysis.  She is also a supervisor with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), managing the data for the equipment management systems statewide, auditing processes, creating and updating policies and procedures, and developing intranet tools for statewide use.  DiSalvo brings to the classroom a blend of her academic and professional background and a sincere desire for every student to experience the joy of learning. She also earned a Robert L. Bailey Teaching Award in 2005 and 2007.

The Robert L. Bailey Teaching Award is determined each trimester by Franklin’s graduating class. Students select a faculty member who challenged them intellectually and guided them in finding the significance of course content as it related to them both professionally and personally. The graduate and undergraduate faculty members receiving the most nominations are identified for this honor, and also receive a monetary award.  Robert L. Bailey, retired CEO and Chairman of State Auto Insurance Companies, is a past Chairman of Franklin's Board of Trustees.
