Third Annual STAR Awards Held

Columbus, OH — 

On Saturday, June 9, Franklin University, a leading educator of working adults, held its third annual Scholarship, Teaching, Advancement, and Results (STAR) awards ceremony in Ross Auditorium.  More than 100 adjunct faculty members were recognized during the event.

Individuals were nominated for a STAR award by their Lead Faculty members based upon their overall contribution to the program in which they teach and student evaluations and feedback with regard to the quality of the instruction they provide.

2011-2012 Excellence in Mentoring Awards
The Office of Teaching Effectiveness also recognized recipients for the Excellence in Mentoring and Promising New Adjunct Faculty Awards. Two individuals received the Excellence in Mentoring Awards for the 2011-2012 academic year. Winners were selected based on their mentees’ feedback, as well as their mentees’ performance in the mentored class, and their adherence to program policies and procedures.

2011-2012 Promising New Adjunct Award
The Promising New Adjunct Faculty Award is awarded to the adjunct faculty member who shows exemplary promise for a rewarding teaching career at Franklin University. The award is given based upon student evaluations and feedback as well as Lead Faculty recommendation.

Franklin University expands the term “academic quality” beyond its conventional definition to include elements specific to the University’s nontraditional student body. From the students’ perspective, quality largely equates to the experience they have in the classroom, whether on campus or online.

The STAR awards are one more element utilized by Franklin University to help assure adjuncts play a key role in each student’s experience.
