Franklin University Holds
129th Commencement Ceremony

Columbus, Ohio - Franklin University, one of the leading educators of working adults in central Ohio, will hold its 129th Commencement Ceremony, during which over 500 degree candidates will receive their diplomas at Veterans Memorial Auditorium on Sunday, August 17.

Veering from its traditional program, Craig Domanik, this trimester's Franklin Student Leaders Scholar will address the graduates. Director of Provider Enrollment for Palmetto GBA, Domanik oversees the administration of all Medicare Part B enrollment activities for providers in Ohio and West Virginia. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Franklin University in 1991, then returned to Franklin in 2007 to earn his MBA, a degree which he will be presented with at Sunday's Commencement Ceremony.  In 2008, Domanik was named a Franklin University Leadership Scholar and served on the Franklin University Honorary Degree selection committee.

Domanik has spent the past 21 years working in the customer satisfaction industry for various organizations. Prior to joining Palmetto GBA, he served as an Operations Manager with Winstar Communications, where he earned a Customer Service Excellence Award.  He has also been presented with two HERO Awards and an Excellence Award at LCI International, two Impact Awards at Victoria's Secret Catalog, and was named to the President's Club at CUC International.

During the 129th Commencement Ceremony, Dr. Paul Otte and Floyd V. Jones will both receive an Honorary Doctorate of Community Leadership from Franklin University.  Dr. Paul Otte serves as the Executive Director of the Franklin University Leadership Center, which he founded in 2003.  The Center serves as a resource for leadership development in business, government, education, and non-profit enterprises. As Franklin University's third president from 1986 to 2007, Dr. Otte skillfully guided the University into the 21st century as Franklin expanded its campuses, grew its academic offerings, and pioneered the use of technology in its coursework. His tenure included many historic achievements, including the 1998 creation of the Community College Alliance (CCA), the first national alliance to provide students from community colleges access to earning a bachelor of science degree online. Today the CCA includes more than 250 schools in 32 states serving more than 1,500 students each year. Also during Dr. Otte's term, Franklin's Virtual Campus was implemented to remove education barriers by providing students with the ultimate flexibility and convenience of online learning. His dedication to Franklin students was symbolized when the University's Student Services Center was rededicated in 2007 as the Paul J. Otte Center for Student Services.

Prior to his years at Franklin, Dr. Otte also served as Vice President for Business at Macomb Community College. He has also taught at Wayne State University, the University of Detroit, Macomb, and Franklin. He currently serves on the Boards of State Auto Mutual, Cooper State Bank, R.C. Olmsted (advisory board), and Oakstone Academy. In 2006, he co-authored The Conflicted Leader and Vantage Leadership with General Al Gray, the 31st Commandant of the Marine Corps - a book which provides a new model for achieving a higher level of leadership.  A former U.S. Marine, Dr. Otte received his Ed.D. from Western Michigan University and his MBA and B.S. from Wayne State. He has also been awarded an honorary associate degree from Macomb.

A native of Columbus, Floyd Jones served in the newspaper industry for nearly three decades, retiring in 2007 as the Senior Vice President of External Affairs for The Columbus Dispatch Printing Company. He began his career with the Dispatch in 1980 in the Department of Employee and Labor Relations, becoming Director in 1988. In 1991, he accepted an executive position with The Baltimore Sun and worked there for four years before returning to the Dispatch as Vice President of Production in 1995.

Jones has served as a board member for many community organizations, including Franklin University, the United Way of Central Ohio, the Community Shelter Board, National Church Residences, and Mount Carmel Foundations. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and graduated from Franklin University with a B.S. in Business Administration.

Jones and his wife Mary have two adult children and four grandchildren.
