Academic Support for Writing
The Student Learning Center (SLC) has two different writing services for you:
The SLC also provides Internet Resources that may be useful writing resources for you.
In-person Tutor Appointments
Writing Tutors are available by appointment in the SLC and via FranklinLive!. The Tutoring Schedule lists the sessions that are available for appointment. Schedule your 30-minute session by calling 614.947.6800 or sign-up in person a week prior to your desired appointment time. The attendance policy limits appointments to one per day and two per week.
The Writing Tutor/Reviewer will:
- Identify errors and teach you how to correct your own paper
- Address grammar and basic structure
- Evaluate your use of the APA citation style
- Notify your instructor that you received writing assistance through the SLC
You are responsible for:
- Spelling and grammar checks
- The accuracy of your content
Before your appointment, make sure you:
- Complete your first typed draft with clear ideas
- Read your paper out loud before your session (you may find your own mistakes!)
- Bring your assignment and instructor's guidelines with you
- Be on time or the tutor will move on to his or her next appointment
Writing Review/Evaluation Service
The writing service is available to review and evaluate your papers prior to submission. After you fill out a form with basic information about yourself and the assignment, your paper can be emailed to the SLC. It is reviewed by a qualified tutor who embeds comments in your paper.
In order to have your paper properly evaluated, please include the following:
- A description of your assignment/guidelines.
- What you found especially challenging as you worked on your paper.
- Why you want someone to review it.
- Your name, e-mail address, phone number, course and instructor.
To use this service, fill out the Writing Review Request Form.
