Maintenance Assistant

Franklin University has a full-time opening for a Maintenance Assistant.  Under the supervision of a senior technician or supervisor, this individual performs day-to-day inspections, preventative maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.  Functions include but are not limited to: daily inspections, installations, general maintenance (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC) and repairs.  Responds to emergency situations and evaluates and corrects defects. 
 
The Maintenance Assistant adheres to all safety practices and procedures; cleans and maintains work areas and equipment; attends meetings; properly completes documentation; provides a high level of customer service; communicates to customers, coworkers and supervision via written, electronic and verbal methods and devices; operates department vehicle; and performs other duties as assigned.  Actively supports our commitment to the university value of acting with integrity and personal accountability to establish a culture of professionalism in the workplace. 
 
Typical hours for this position are Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. however, shift, hours, days, and/or location are subject to change based on operational need.  May work overtime on an exceptional basis and will be subject to 24-hour on call in the event of an emergency situation.   This position pays $20.98 per hour and after 90 days, is eligible for an incentive compensation program that pays out twice per year.

We seek someone with a high school diploma/GED and 1-2 years’ experience in basic electric, plumbing, carpentry or HVAC.  Successful completion of the 90-day introductory period must include demonstrated competence in each of the identified technical specialties as required for this position’s level of responsibility: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC/R.   Must have a satisfactory motor vehicle report at time of hire and must maintain it throughout length of employment as this position involves driving a University vehicle.  Must be able to push and pull 100 lbs., distinguish colors, and climb ladders to perform successfully in this role. 

A valid OSHA 10-hour General Industry Safety and Health card is desired for this position.  If the incumbent does not currently have one, it must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
