Franklin University has an opening for a Senior Accountant. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this individual will be primarily responsible for maintaining the daily accounting processes and internal financial controls of both Franklin University and its branch campus, Urbana University, to allow the timely preparation and consolidation of monthly financial statements.
The Senior Accountant will maintain the general ledger, subsidiary ledgers, and supporting documentation; identify and retrieve daily cash needs; reconcile bank accounts; and maintain official accounting records in accordance with GAAP and higher education standards. Other duties will include monthly account reconciliation preparation and detailed account analysis with comparison to prior periods and budget amounts. The Senior Accountant will also participate in the month-end and year-end general ledger closing processes; assist in the monthly preparation of financial statements of Franklin University ; ensure compliance with current accounting and financial reporting requirements; work with external auditors to coordinate and provide requested documentation; and work on various projects and ad-hoc requests. Occasional travel (approximately 1-2 times per month) to Urbana University may be required.
We seek someone with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant accounting and financial reporting experience including an understanding of accounting processes, general ledger maintenance and reconciliation, journal entries, and preparation of consolidated financial statements. The selected individual will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, be detail-oriented, and possess the ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment. He/she will have highly developed analytical skills and the ability to work independently. The position also requires someone with strong aptitude for technology and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Experience with higher education and/or the non-profit industry and with Ellucian’s Colleague ERP system are desired, but not required. An MBA, MAcc or current CPA certification is preferred, but not required.
