Visiting Scholar Oman - Human Resources

Interested in teaching overseas? Fall term 2019, there is an available opportunity to teach in Muscat, Oman. We are seeking an instructor to teach one section of Human Resource Management and one section of Employee Training & Development per day beginning September 8, 2019. This international teaching assignment is available through Franklin University's Visiting Scholars Program. The Visiting Scholars Program promotes linkages between U.S. scholars and expert practitioners, and their counterparts at institutions outside of the United States. Visiting scholars and professionals develop international capacities related to: the global system of higher education, the pressing global issues related to their subject area, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Position Requirements: DBA or PhD in Human Resources or related discipline is required. Candidates with a doctoral degree and 18 graduate credit hours in Human Resources will be considered as well. Significant real world experience in the field is desired.  
Three years of teaching experience in Human Resources or closely related discipline is preferred.  Instructor will design and deliver one section a day of Human Resource Management and one section of Employee Training & Development Sunday - Thursday beginning September 8, 2019 through October 3, 2019.

Human Resource Management Course Summary: In depth examination of human resource management issues from a contemporary manager’s viewpoint. Topics examined include: Employee Recruitment & Selection, Performance Appraisal, Training & Development, Compensation and Strategic HRM. This course is required for management majors.  

Employee Training & Development Course Summary: This course introduces critical principles and current issues related to employees training and development. An intensive study of training in organizations, including needs analysis, learning theory, management development, and development of training objectives and programs. Projects and exercises are used to supplement the readings. The course offers both theory and practical experience. Emphasis will be placed on developing competencies that will help students find and keep challenging, personally satisfying job in today’s competitive business world.

The Visiting Scholars Program is designed to:
• Engage scholars and expert practitioners in academic exchange relationships with faculty and staff from around the world
• Enable scholars and expert practitioners to conduct partnership scholarship, investigate problems in new contexts, recognize different perspectives in teaching and learning, and communicate disciplinary ideas across cultures
• Promote increased cooperation and collaboration among U.S. based scholars and practitioners and their academic and professional counterparts at non-U.S. based institutions of higher education

Responsibilities of Visiting Scholars include:
• Course development and delivery in an accelerated format of two sections per day during the week days (Sun-Thurs).
• Allocating at least two hours a week for office time for students - some have elected to do one hour each day after class
• Providing seminars to the faculty, staff and students on a topic of mutual interest related to the teaching assignment
• Working closely with other faculty members at the host University - Visiting Scholars may serve as a guest lecturer in other courses and will partner with host faculty to delve deeper into research projects, present on areas of research specialization, and potentially serve as an expert conducting radio interviews on the campus
• Observing one or more classes
• Engaging in program assessment activity or curriculum review
• Contributing to tailoring exam papers and/or quizzes
• Taking part in cultural trips within the country or in other parts of the region

During the visit, Visiting Scholars reside in a two bedroom apartment connected to the Grand Mall which is a five minute drive to the College. It would accommodate a scholar visiting with their partner. Our colleagues at our partner College would assist in transporting Visiting Scholars to and from the college. The college also organizes at least one Muscat or near area tour for Visiting Scholars.

To qualify for these funded assignments one must have a history of excellence as a business leader/entrepreneur, effectively taught college level courses, met the academic requirements of the course assignments and have the ability to travel internationally.
