Profile

Alex Heckman is Chair of the Department of Public Administration and the founder of the Public Administration programs at Franklin University. He received his Ph.D. in Public Policy and Management from Ohio State University. Dr. Heckman's consulting and research areas are ethical leadership, policy implementation, conducting high-quality teaching research, and the nature of good management and its impact on organizational performance. He has published research in the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory and the Public Management Review. Dr. Heckman has consulted with and conducted research for the Pew Center for the States, Ohio Local Government Innovation Council, Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services, and the City of Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Heckman has extensive professional experience having served a four-year term as school board member in one Ohio's largest school districts, worked as a manager and performance auditor for the Ohio Auditor of State, and served as a non-partisan budget and policy analyst for the Ohio Legislature. He currently serves as a member of Westerville City Council and volunteers for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Franklin County.
