OAS-Supported Programming
The Office of Academic Scholarship (OAS) supports programming for faculty, staff, and students. OAS programming aims to empower individual researchers to develop their projects through collegial conversation, workshops, and seminars with peers and mentors. Please contact the office at oas@franklin.edu for more information about participating in these opportunities.
Consult a Methodologist
If you would like to discuss your project with a methodologist, you can request a consultation here.
Franklin University Scholarship Showcase
The Franklin University Scholarship Showcase is an annual conference supported by the Office of Academic Scholarship (OAS) and the Doctoral Student Association (DSA). This is an opportunity for everyone at Franklin to share their work, ignite curiosity, and inspire others to dive into research, whether through collaborative efforts or by pursuing independent projects.
For more information, and to see contributions from previous conferences, check out the showcase page on FUSE.
Note that the Franklin University Scholarship Showcase is an expansion of the DSA conference that was held from 2021-2024. Works from the DSA conferences are available on FUSE.
Writing Fridays For Faculty & Staff
The OAS sponsors the University-wide Writing Fridays program, a “write-in-place" initiative aimed at providing faculty and staff dedicated, unstructured work time for their writing and research projects. Writing Fridays aims to both support and make visible the exciting work faculty and staff are already pursuing in their writing and research. By opening up a dedicated space for faculty and staff to write alongside of one another, the initiative hopes to make creativity, collegiality, and persistence the foundation of our writing habits across our campus.
Faculty Exchange Programs
The vision of Senator J. William Fulbright as a way to foster mutual understanding between nations, advance knowledge across communities, and improve lives around the world, the Fulbright Scholarship Program sponsors U.S. and foreign participants for exchanges in all areas of endeavor, including the sciences, business, academics, public service, government, and the arts. Since its start in 1946, exchanges have been arranged through binational partnerships with foreign governments, and the support of the U.S. government with scholarship opportunities in 160 countries. Information on the two largest programs is offered below.
Each year some 800 faculty and professionals from around the world receive Fulbright Scholar grants for advanced research and university lecturing. The Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), the scholar division of the Institute of International Education (IIE), is well known for its expertise and extensive experience in conducting international exchange programs for scholars and university administrators. For nearly 70 years, CIES has administered the Fulbright Scholar Program, the United States flagship academic exchange effort, on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. Through this program Fulbright scholars can travel to other institutions to share their specific research interests, speak on the history and culture of their home country, exchange ideas with U.S. students, faculty and community organizations, become better acquainted with U.S. higher education, and create linkages between their home and host institutions and CIES.
The Franklin point of contact for these Fulbright programs is the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Christopher Washington. If you have questions or information to share, please contact the provost's office.
