Programs & Support

Programs & Support

The Office of Academic Scholarship (OAS) offers a range of programming for faculty, staff, and students. OAS programming aims to empower individual researchers to develop their projects through collegial conversation, workshops, and seminars with peers and mentors. Currently, the OAS sponsors Writing Fridays, a university-wide faculty and staff writing initiative, and the Dissertation Boot Camp, a multi-day workshop for doctoral candidates. The office also provides individual consultations. Please contact the office at oas@franklin.edu for more information about participating in these opportunities.

For Faculty & Staff

Writing Fridays

The OAS sponsors the University-wide Writing Fridays program, a “write-in-place" initiative aimed at providing faculty and staff dedicated, unstructured work time for their writing and research projects. Writing Fridays aims to both support and make visible the exciting work faculty and staff are already pursuing in their writing and research. By opening up a dedicated space for faculty and staff to write alongside of one another, the initiative hopes to make creativity, collegiality, and persistence the foundation of our writing habits across our campus.

For Students

Dissertation Boot Camp

The OAS offers a Dissertation Boot Camp to Franklin's doctoral candidates. Over the course of several days, doctoral candidates participate in virtual sessions to make progress on their dissertation work, regardless of whatever stage they might be in their process. In addition to building a community among doctoral candidates, this initiative aims to share the insights and perspectives of faculty and staff on making dissertation writing meaningful, effective, and rewarding.
