Columbus, OH (December 22, 2016)

Franklin University, one of the leading educators of working adults, will hold its 154th Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 at 2 p.m., during which more than 650 degree candidates will receive their diplomas. This commencement ceremony will take place at The Greater Columbus Convention Center, 400 N. High St. in downtown Columbus.

Commencement has always been a time of celebration. For Franklin University, the event marks a tremendous sense of achievement for students who completed their degrees often while juggling work, families and more. The University is proud to honor the achievements of this newest class of graduates and invites the community to join in the celebration.

Commencement Speakers
Keynote speaker Dr. Dorey Diab was named the fifth president of North Central State College (NC State) in 2013. Prior to joining NC State, President Diab was provost and chief academic officer at Stark State College in North Canton, Ohio. He draws on more than 20 years of higher education experience to lead NC State and their partnerships throughout the community. NC State is a public two-year community-based educational institution located in Mansfield, Ohio.

President Diab’s experience spans the technical and community college system and executive and leadership positions at the administrative and academic levels. In his role as president, he actively engages with students, business and industry leaders, community organizations and government entities at the federal, state and local levels.

President Diab understands the complexity and challenges that today’s students bring to community colleges for they mirror his own academic career. As an immigrant to the United States, he matriculated at Cuyahoga Community College and learned English while mastering his academic studies. As a result, he brings strong empathy and passion for students and their path to success with his positive attitude and unwavering commitment to the community college mission.

President Diab earned a bachelor and master’s degree in engineering from Cleveland State University, a master’s degree in business from Kent State University and a Ph.D. in Leadership in higher education from the University of Nebraska.

Also addressing the graduates will be Bret Prange, graduating student speaker receiving his Master of Science in Human Resource Management.

Bret Prange has worked as a human resources professional for more than 15 years and currently serves as a human resources business partner with FamilyFarms Group, an agriculture consultancy headquartered in Brighton, ILL.  Prior to that, Prange was a senior HR generalist for the Eaton Corporation in Pinckneyville, Ill.

Prange first came to Franklin University as an undergraduate student, and in 2010 graduated with his bachelor’s degree in human resources management. He credits his academic and career success to the knowledge and proficiency he gained from Franklin.

Prange lives in Aviston, Ill. with his wife and their two beloved dogs, Morgan and Kneesa.
