Franklin University Department Chair Appointed SPAE Chair

Columbus, OH (April 18, 2016)

Franklin University, a leader in adult education, is proud to announce Dr. Alex Heckman, department chair, public administration, and chair of the public administration programs, has been elected Chair of the American Society of Public Administration Section on Public Administration Education (SPAE).

The SPAE, the largest and most prominent professional association for public administration, is dedicated to advancing the art, science, teaching and practice of public and non-profit administration. Dr. Heckman’s election as SPAE Chair demonstrates his commitment to ensuring high quality education for, and professionalism of, government and nonprofit leaders and managers.

Today’s announcement adds to the extensive practitioner expertise Dr. Heckman brings his programs, having served a four-year term as a non-partisan elected school board member in the 10th-largest school district in Ohio, as well as having worked as a manager and performance auditor for the Ohio Auditor of State and as a non-partisan budget and policy analyst for the Ohio Legislature.  He currently serves as the President of the Central Ohio American Society of Public Administration (COASPA) and volunteers as a Guardian Ad Litem for CASA of Franklin County.

He received his Ph.D. in public policy and management and M.P.A. from The Glenn School of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University; and he earned a B.A. in history and secondary education from Capital University.
