Congratulations to this trimester’s recipients: Omar Alomari (left side of photo), undergraduate adjunct faculty in global issues, pop culture and world religions, and Jeffrey M. Ferezan, Ph.D. (right side of photo), graduate adjunct faculty in business psychology.
Omar Alomari was born in Jordan. He studied in Jordan, Egypt, England and the United States, and has been teaching at Franklin University since 1995.
Alomari’s philosophy in education goes beyond transmitting knowledge, it’s about inspiring students to maximize their potential and discover their purpose to become competent global citizens and ambassadors for Franklin University in its global education leadership.
“Professor Omar Alomari possesses a powerful and inspiring enthusiasm for teaching. He has a wonderful rapport with his students, all of whom are from various backgrounds. Every student should be required to take a course taught by Professor Alomari. I have the utmost respect for him and I appreciate and cherish the time I’ve spent in his class.”
Jeffrey M. Ferezan, Ph.D. currently teaches the master’s-level managerial psychology course, but he has a long history with the University, previously serving as the program chair for Business Administration and director of the Graduate School of Business, a predecessor of the Ross College of Business. A 2015 recipient of the University’s Teaching Excellence Award, he also was a faculty administrator and adjunct faculty member in the Ross School of Management and Leadership.
Before joining Franklin, Ferezan spent 13 years as the founding principal of a global consulting firm and nine years as the vice president and managing partner of an executive search, recruitment and outplacement firm. He continues to consult in the area of improving organizational performance.
Ferezan earned his bachelor’s degree at Youngstown State University, an MBA at Franklin University and a Ph.D. in Leadership Skills and Systems with a specialization in higher education at Union Institute & University in Cincinnati.
“Dr. Jeffrey Ferezan was engaging and very helpful. He provided us the respect and space needed to get our work done, answered question quickly and thoroughly and taught important lessons. Dr. Ferezan helps his students grow not only academically, but professionally and personally as well. I am truly blessed to have had an instructor who cares this much about his students.”
About the Robert L. Bailey Teaching Award
Each trimester, two faculty members are honored with the Robert L. Bailey Teaching Award. Graduating students are asked to identify one undergraduate and one graduate faculty member who had the most significant influence on them throughout their educational experience at Franklin University. The award recognizes those who have challenged students intellectually and guided them in finding the significance of the course content as it relates to them both personally and professionally.
While more than 100 graduate and undergraduate faculty members are nominated each trimester – clearly showing the magnitude of interaction between students and faculty at Franklin University – the faculty members receiving the most nominations are awarded this honor.
These awards are funded through an endowment established by State Auto Insurance Companies in recognition of Robert L. Bailey, who served State Auto for 28 years in various positions, including President, CEO, and Chairman, until his retirement in 2000. Bailey is also a past Chair and a Trustee Emeritus of Franklin University’s Board of Trustees.
