Dr. Chenelle Jones Appointed Public Safety Programs Chair

Franklin University, one of the leading educators of working adults, announced the promotion of Dr. Chenelle Jones from Lead Faculty to Program Chair of the Public Safety programs within the College of Health and Public Administration.

In her new role as Program Chair, Dr. Jones will oversee the Master of Arts in Criminal Justice Administration, Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice Leadership, Criminal Justice Administration major, Emergency Management & Homeland Security major, and Public Safety Management and Leadership major.

“Dr. Jones has been an outstanding addition to Franklin since she began working full-time in January 2018,” said Jonathan McCombs, Dean College of Health and Public Administration. “This promotion recognizes her exceptional work leading the Public Safety Programs and sharing Franklin’s expertise within the community.”

Dr. Jones is widely recognized as a superb scholar and important contributor within the community. Her accolades include being recently named to this year’s Business First 40 under 40 list; and as selection as an Outstanding Author Contribution in the 2018 Emerald Literati Awards for her article The New Jane Crow: Mass Incarceration and the Denied Maternity of Black Women.

Dr. Jones received her Ph.D. in the Administration of Justice from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. Her research interests include race and crime, policing, and juvenile delinquency. In furtherance of her academic interests, Dr. Jones serves as the National Director of Research for the Teen and Police Service (TAPS) Academy, a federally funded program designed to reduce social distance between police officers and youth. She has written numerous articles and book chapters on public perceptions of the police, race, and the administration of justice, and is the co-editor of A Critical Analysis of Race and the Administration of Justice.
