Franklin University’s baccalaureate degree Health Information Management (HIM) program today received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), an independent accrediting organization. The accreditation reinforces the University’s commitment to academic excellence and places Franklin among a select group of universities offering CAHIIM-accredited degree programs.

Through the accreditation process, Franklin University voluntarily subjected its program to a rigorous peer review process to meet established standards. Graduating from a CAHIIM-accredited program provides students with professionally required skills and knowledge, and offers employers assurances that a graduate has experienced a curriculum that is relevant to today’s technology-driven healthcare.   Graduates are eligible to sit for a national exam to obtain the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), which is consistently ranked as one of the best Health Information Technology certificates to hold.

“In today’s workforce, students need an education that helps differentiate them from others in the field, especially for those in careers involving Health Information Management,” said JoAnn Jordan, Program Chair of Franklin’s HIM program. “Franklin University is committed to providing students with a quality education that prepares them for today’s workforce. The CAHIIM accreditation assures students that we are doing exactly that.”

Franklin University’s transfer-friendly, online Health Information Management degree program prepares students to help streamline patient care issues. Students will gain the knowledge and confidence to work with others at the management table to develop policies and processes that provide quick access to critical patient data while ensuring confidentiality and the proper release of patient care.

In light of mandated Affordable Care Act reporting, data-driven healthcare requires more professionals who understand the systems and regulations behind the care. With a CAHIIM-accredited B.S. Health Information Management degree from Franklin, students have the industry-esteemed skillsets to help develop critical, potentially life-saving, policies and processes.
