Connect with Microsoft Teams
We all crave human connection, and luckily, an instant virtual connection is one of the many benefits of our technologically advanced world. From virtual meetings to online conferences and video chats, the ability to meet in a virtual space creates diverse opportunities to connect.
As a Franklin University student, you have free access to use Microsoft Teams, a convenient collaboration and messaging tool. Read on to find out how to reap the benefits of this useful application.
Access
There are a few ways to access Microsoft Teams. When logged into your Franklin email account, click on the box located next to the word Outlook in the upper left corner of the webpage. Then, click on Teams. You can also download the Teams application to your computer, phone, or other devices. Log into Teams using your Franklin University credentials to get started!

Benefits
Virtual advising appointments
At Franklin University, we have changed our appointment options to now include Virtual Appointments. Many departments, including Academic Advising, Office of Accessibility Services, Student Financial Services, and the Center for Career Development, now give you the option to meet via webcam in Microsoft Teams. Simply select the “Virtual Appointment” when booking an appointment with one of these departments, and you will be emailed a Teams meeting link to join the video call.
Virtual appointments also allow convenient screen-sharing options. Hoping to create a path to graduation with your advisor? They can walk you through Student Planning via screen share. Unsure of how to register for classes? Share your screen with your advisor so they can help you navigate in real-time.
Group project collaboration
Team members must collaborate to create a successful group project, which on the surface seems complicated in an online atmosphere. However, Microsoft Teams offers numerous features to keep you and your group connected:
- Messaging/chat feature: Stay in touch with your groupmates using Teams’ chat features. Enhance your chat with GIFs, stickers, and emojis.
- File sharing: Share files within Teams to keep your group’s work organized in one space.
- Phone calls/video calls: Keep your phone number private, and instead call your group members in Teams, which offers both phone and video call capabilities. Live closed captioning lets you make your meeting accessible to all group members.
- Schedule meetings: Set up group meeting times with ease and get that project completed.
Download Teams today on your laptop, cell phone, or other devices. Then, set up a Virtual Advising Appointment with your academic advisor or get started on that group project!
