Fountain Pens as a Hobby
July 15, 2020 | By Breanna Mackley

Are you looking for a new hobby that could also be useful in the workplace? Fountain pens may be the right hobby for you then. With a variety of size and color options, you can curate a collection that is unique to you. Here are three reasons you should consider taking your writing experience to the next level.
- Personal Touch & Uniqueness
No one can deny the conveniences of modern technology, we would not be able to work without it. However, there may be times where a situation requires a personal touch. For example, writing a thank you note after an interview; sending holiday cards to your employees; or sending a welcome card to a new client. A hand-written note shows that you care, helping to build professional relationships. Also, the satisfying experience of writing with a fine instrument inspires you to seek out more opportunities to use your fountain pens- the possibilities are endless!
- Note-Taking
Whether you are a new hire in the first week of the job or apart of the leadership team, note-taking in meetings is vital. Taking notes allows you to capture the major points discussed and create a recap to refer back to. Additionally, you can write down tasks and assign them immediately. Effective note-taking means you leave a meeting with an action plan in hand. Additionally, fountain pen ink comes in hundreds of colors and can even shimmer or sheen! Keep multiple pens inked at a time with different colors to create headers in your notes.
- Pen Paling
Consider using your fountain pens to begin pen paling. There are various sites and services that match you with a pen pal of your preference. Begin a connection to someone whom you share professional experience with- expanding your network. Conversely, you can build relationships with those with different interests, which will expand your knowledge. Either way, it’s a win-win! Impress your pen pals by wax sealing all of your envelopes too.
