Reporting OPT Employment
Are you currently - or soon to be - working with Optional Practical Training (OPT) employment authorization?
As a reminder, while working on OPT, you are still responsible for following the regulations governing the F-1 student visa/status. Once you have graduated and are on post-completion OPT, some of the most relevant regulations include keeping your contact and employment information updated in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
While you can always contact OISP for help updating your information, students on post-completion OPT can, also, use the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) Portal. Follow the links below for more information:
- Using the SEVP Portal
- Updating Personal Information in the Portal
- Updating Employment Information in the Portal
Please be aware of the importance of updating your information. On August 28, SEVP announced that it is conducting a review of SEVIS records for OPT participants. SEVP will begin mailing notices directly to students who have not reported employer information and have exceeded 90 days of unemployment. The notice informs students of their lack of employer/employment information and provides an opportunity for them to update their records either through their DSO or directly through the SEVP Portal. More information can be found at ICE.gov.
Questions or concerns? Contact OISP at oisp@franklin.edu or schedule an appointment with your international advisor.
