Ways to Stay Positive
If you wake up in a negative mood, remember that there are ways to fight that negativity. Below are four tips for evoking positivity into your day.
1.) Start your morning by writing down three things you are grateful for in your life. Gratitude has been linked to positive emotions and overall well-being.
2.) Listen to music that puts you in a good mood. Music can release dopamine into your body, causing feelings of relaxation and happiness. In essence, "happy music" can make you feel happier.
3.) Choosing to use positive rather than negative language can change your perception too. Using positive language, whether written or verbal, can reduce conflicts, improve communications, and increase optimism. Below are a couple of examples:
Phrase | Replace With |
---|---|
I can't | Let me look into that for you |
I'll try | I will |
Not too bad | Great |
4.) Follow your passions. Take a class on a topic you enjoy, volunteer for a cause you believe in, or take a day off to read your favorite book. Creating a sense of meaning in your life will lead to a healthier you and result in greater life positivity.
