EGMT330 - Introduction to the Energy Industry

Description:
This course provides students with an overview of the current energy marketplace and its challenges in regard to regulatory policies and emerging opportunities. Students examine energy-related events happening around the world with a focus on understanding what they mean for future energy policy and practice for societal and environmental well-being. The course recognizes the breadth of the energy industry while also allowing students the ability to gain extra depth of study in the energy sub-sector that aligns with their career objective.

Outcomes:

  • Describe the major sources and uses for energy including its importance to modern civilization
  • Explain the interaction of principle components to the primary energy industries in historical perspective
  • Describe the history of the energy industry both domestically and internationally in general with more in-depth coverage of an energy sub-section aligned with the student’s career objective. This description will include a working vocabulary of industry-related terms and terminology
  • Examine the possibilities for improvement across the Triple Bottom Line (economic value generation, environmental stewardship, and people-centered principles.)
  • Explain how the competitive forces are likely to change in the future
  • Evaluate the energy industry challenges within the interdependency of energy sub-sectors and regulatory oversight
