Description:
This course is an introduction to the clinical classification systems that are used to assign codes for healthcare encounters in a variety of settings. Focus will be emphasized on the organization, relationships, and guidelines that regulate these systems.

Outcomes:

• Define common rules and guidelines for common clinical classification systems.
• Describe coding guidelines as they apply to specific disease classifications and patient settings.
• Explain the relationships between various clinical classification systems.
• Apply rules and guidelines to assign clinical classification codes to healthcare encounters.
