MIS200 - Management Information Systems

Description:
The purpose of this course is to provide the fundamentals associated with the management of information technology in a business enterprise. These fundamentals are business concepts in which the influence of information technology has caused change or brought about new concepts. Special emphasis will be placed on understanding the managerial issues that are relevant to the usage of computers. The student will be given problems isolating these issues and will be asked to propose solutions with alternatives.

Outcomes:

  • Discuss the relationships of information and knowledge in terms of an organization's mission, goals, and strategies
  • Summarize the services provided by the MIS functional area in relation to the business needs of an organization
  • Discuss how business needs drive the information and knowledge needs of an organization
  • Determine the flow of information and knowledge in an organization in terms of its business architecture
  • Describe the governance structure of the MIS functional area for an organization
  • Compare the effects that industry standards, government regulations, and laws have on an MIS functional area's governance, processes, and services
  • Outline current and future technologies that affect (or will affect) the MIS functional area
