International Students

As described in the Optional Practical Training overview, the standard (12-month) post-completion OPT may be extended an additional 24 months for graduates of certain Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs.

Eligible F-1 students who participate in standard post-completion OPT have the option to apply for a two-year extension if they have completed a STEM-designated degree. Five of Franklin's graduate programs that are currently available to F-1 international students are STEM-designated:

  • MBA-STEM*
  • M.S. in Business Analytics
  • M.S. in Computer Science
  • M.S. in Information Technology
  • M.S. in Health Informatics.

More information about the 24-month STEM extension is available in the OPT webpages under Module 4: What do I do when my OPT is ending?.

*Other MBA programs offered by Franklin do not currently meet requirements for the STEM extension.
