International Student Orientation

International Student Orientation

The Office of International Students and Programs offers multiple opportunities to help international students get started: Pre-Departure Orientation, International Student Orientation, and Immigration Check-In. Each event is designed to provide just-in-time support from acceptance through the start of courses. In addition to providing an opportunity to meet staff and peers, these events will address arrival information, immigration-related regulations, resources available for your support, and how to maintain updated records.

Pre-Departure Orientation

Pre-Departure Orientation is for students moving to Columbus, Ohio to attend Franklin University as an international student. A recording of the pre-departure orientation is sent to students several weeks before their expected start term, allowing access to the information when it is most convenient to students across timezones. Topics include:

  • Traveling to and arriving in Columbus
  • Choosing the right housing for you
  • Local transportation options
  • Life in Columbus

International Student Orientation

International Student Orientation is an opportunity for new and returning international students to learn more about Franklin University within the context of being an international student. Receive the most up-to-date information about academic policies, immigration regulations, and student services offered by Franklin, and meet the team in the Office of International Students and Programs as well as your peers. International Student Orientation is normally held on Franklin's Main Campus in downtown Columbus. While accommodating delayed visa interviews due to COVID-19, orientation will be held online as a one-day series of interactive online meetings.

Immigration Check-In

Immigration Check-In is a mandatory session for F-1 international students to register their Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records through a Designate School Official, learn how to update important records, and get familiar with on-campus resources. Immigration Check-In occurs on-campus in the first week of courses.
