Celebrate the innovation, dedication and leadership of our graduate students as they share solutions to drive change and improve outcomes in healthcare systems. Centered around the theme “Innovations in Healthcare and Nursing,” the Global Center for Healthcare Education Showcase offers a platform for emerging healthcare leaders to present their work to peers, faculty and professionals across the healthcare community.

We will begin the event by honoring three exceptional Healthcare Heroes,
recognizing their outstanding contributions, leadership and dedication to advancing
health and well-being in their communities. These individuals exemplify the spirit of
innovation, compassion and resilience at the heart of healthcare today. ​

2025 Healthcare Heroes

Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff ​

Bruce T. Vanderhoff, MD, MBA, was appointed director of the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) in 2021. Dr. Vanderhoff is a key leader in planning, managing, and executing Ohio’s response to a wide range of public health issues, from communicable diseases, including the COVID-19 pandemic, to environmental health threats, healthcare delivery and other public health challenges. Dr. Vanderhoff also leads ODH’s effort to transform the landscape of public health in Ohio through programs and policies that strive to improve health, healthcare access and clinical outcomes. ​

Dr. Vanderhoff has amassed years of experience leading large teams to successfully deal with important healthcare issues. He served more than a decade as a senior vice president and chief medical officer at OhioHealth, where he prepared the healthcare system to manage the threat of Ebola and H1N1 and addressed pressing healthcare issues affecting Ohioans. 

Dr. Anita Somani

Dr. Anita Somani is a highly respected healthcare professional and has worked as an OBGYN at OhioHealth for the last 32 years. Dr. Somani is a past board member of the Columbus Medical Association and Planned Parenthood and a current board member of LEAD Ohio.  ​

Dr. Somani also serves in the Ohio House of Representatives. As a physician and legislator, she has used her medical background to improve the public health of our state and to create evidence-based legislation that helps everyone in our community. She serves on the Health Policy, Families & Aging and Insurance committees, as well as the Health Providers Committee where she is the ranking member. ​

Dr. Somani is a past executive in residence at Franklin University. She currently serves on the university’s Global Center for Healthcare Education Advisory Board. 

Dr. Sabrina Dean

Sabrina Dean, DBA, R.N., is the founder of Sabrina’s Consulting, where she helps individuals fulfill their holistic and health desires. She is also the co-founder of the African American Women Giving Circle, Dayton, Ohio.  ​

Sabrina is the former director of Quality, Infection Control and Risk Management at several healthcare organizations.  She is also an adjunct
instructor in Franklin University's doctoral program. Dr. Dean is an experienced, registered nurse who has worked in the healthcare industry
for 35 years.  ​

​She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wright State University and a Doctor of Business Administration with a focus in Healthcare Administration from Northcentral University. Dr. Dean has spent the last 20+ years as a healthcare executive for several short-term and long-term acute care hospitals.​

Spring Scholarship Showcase
