Improve Your Doctoral-Level Teaching with Post-Doctoral Seminars
The Franklin University International Institute for Innovative Instruction and the office of Teaching Effectiveness has developed a series of courses for faculty members who will participate in the new doctoral courses being offered at Franklin University.
This series of courses is designed to offer doctoral faculty opportunities to explore current ideas and trends in doctoral education. These post-doctoral seminars offer faculty the opportunity to engage in dialog with other education professionals as they rethink possibilities for teaching, guiding, and supporting doctoral students. The courses begin with an overview of Franklin’s doctoral programs and then proceed to address doctoral level pedagogies, communities of practice, and supporting doctoral students through the dissertation process.
These courses are created as post-doctoral seminars. They are designed to enable faculty to engage in debate, discussion, and questioning, as well as to research and explore topics in depth and then discuss their conclusions, recommendations, perspectives, insights, opinions, and ideas. This provides the participants with the opportunity to explore a topic in depth, clarify one’s own understandings, express views in a safe environment, collaborate with others, share knowledge, and develop as an academic. During these seminars, the instructor does not typically disseminate information or provide instruction. Instead, the instructor takes a back seat, sometimes asking questions to stimulate discussion or providing facilitation direction. In these seminars, the onus for learning is on the participants to be able to share ideas, collaborate, support others, and explore new ideas.
The Institute is excited about offering these seminars. We hope you consider participating! For additional information and registration, please go to: http://www.i4teaching.net/.
