Alumni Spotlight

Mike Rogers ’03
Mike Rogers, senior leader, Centric Consulting  

Mike is a seasoned business leader with experience implementing strategic programs at Fortune 100 companies that support business and financial objectives across insurance, energy and utilities, and healthcare industries. Mike served in the Ohio Air National Guard for 16 years, most recently as a master sergeant in the 178th Security Forces Squadron. Mike joined the Ohio Air National Guard and served for eight years as a mechanic on KC-135 aircraft and deployed to the Middle East to serve in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After this initial enlistment, Mike attended Franklin University, where he received his MBA. 

After a 10-year break in service, Mike reenlisted in Security Forces and deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, where he was responsible for leading and directing security operations with various agencies. Mike has over 17 years of information technology experience in requirements definition, analysis and design, program and project management, full-system lifecycle development, training, and quality assurance. Mike is active in the local community, volunteering with the Adaptive Adventure Sports Connection and Rebuilding Together Central Ohio.

Submit Your Franklin Alumni Awards Today!

The Office of Community Relations is proud to introduce a new way to honor our alumni. With more than 50,000 Franklin alumni making a difference around the world, the new Alumni Awards have been established to recognize the many achievements of our alumni, both professionally and personally.

Three awards have been established: The Franklin University Alumni Award for Professional Excellence, the Franklin University Alumni of the Year Award, and the Franklin University Alumni Award for Social Impact.

Open to any Franklin University graduate, nominations are now being accepted for consideration by the Franklin University Alumni Advisory Council. If you know of a deserving alumnus that fits one of these three categories, please submit your nomination here.

*One award will be announced each term on a rotating basis. Winners will be recognized during corresponding commencement ceremonies. The inaugural Franklin University Alumni Award for Social Impact will be announced during the September 2021 Commencement Ceremony.

Welcome to Newest Members of the Franklin Family 

On Friday, June 18, Franklin will welcome the newest members to the Franklin Alumni Family. Over the spring 2021 term, 700 students completed their associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees. The Alumni Office congratulates everyone on this amazing accomplishment. We hope each of our alumni considers graduation one more step in a lifelong relationship with your alma mater.

Robert L. Bailey Awards Announced   

Congratulations to this trimester’s recipients: Bruce Stapleton, marketing undergraduate faculty, and Annette Hoelzer, lead accounting faculty.

Bruce Stapleton has been a Franklin University adjunct professor since 2013 and currently teaches undergraduate marketing classes. With a focus on engaging students, he leverages Franklin’s wide range of online resources, including discussion groups, interactive meet sessions, and self-produced videos to apply real-world examples that are further strengthened  by his 30 years of executive marketing and management experience.

Annette Hoelzer joined Franklin’s faculty as an adjunct professor in 2014 and currently serves as lead faculty for accounting has overseen the areas of tax and forensic accounting. As an avenue to give back to the profession in which she has spent so many years, Annette’s greatest passion is teaching and mentoring future accountants and consultants. In recent years, she has served as site director for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program to help individuals with household incomes up to $65,000, persons with disabilities, and limited-English speaking taxpayers in the central Ohio community prepare their tax returns.

Franklin Proud to Partner with Columbus City Schools 

As society experiences accelerated digitization of learning and work activities, Franklin is uniquely positioned to support the evolving needs of educators. With this idea in mind, Franklin and Columbus City Schools have partnered to join nearly three centuries of expertise in education to help shape Columbus’ current and future generations.

The partnership provides Columbus City School employees with a book benefit and a tuition discount from Franklin’s School of Education, as they work toward earning pre-licensure for instructional assistance. Further, the partnership benefit is extended to those Columbus City School employees looking to further their academic pursuits in undergraduate and graduate accounting and finance, management and marketing, public administration, health and nursing, safety, communications, computer science, psychology, and social sciences, and in the Ed.D. in organizational leadership program.

Through this partnership, Franklin further fulfills its mission by providing educational opportunities that help support the academic and professional growth employees seek while also helping ensure students become lifelong learners.

Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics (Earn in as few as 8 months)

Adding to its current offerings, Franklin is proud to introduce its new Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics. The online certificate program is designed to uncover insights within the big data for important sectors such as government organizations, nonprofits, and the corporate world. The Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics positions students for industry certifications through Tableau and SAS. 
Completion of the four 12-week courses required to earn the Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics equips students with job-ready skills, in addition to positioning them four classes away from completing one of three master’s degrees at Franklin in Data Analytics, Business Analytics or Health Informatics.

Franklin Faculty Continue to Share Expertise in the Community

University faculty members don’t just make an impact within the Franklin community, they also serve as experts in various capacities throughout central Ohio and the nation. Here are a few Franklin faculty members who were in the spotlight this past month:

Dr. Kelly B. Renner, LCP, assistant dean, curriculum and program chair of Psychology and Social Sciences, will be presenting at the third annual “Women of Inspiration Summit” (WISE) virtual event, held by Columbus Young Professionals Club.

Ohio Cyber Range Institute (OCRI) has awarded Franklin University faculty member Dr. Bilge Karabacak, along with Mark Riley of Hocking College, funding to create and deploy an "Introduction to Digital Forensics" course. This funding is part of the OCRI Summer 2021 Faculty Fellowship program, allowing educators throughout Ohio to contribute resources for education, training, and skills essential in protecting digital assets.

Distinguished Sales Speaker Series: “Field vs. Inside Selling, What’s the Difference?”

Lauren Bailey is the Founder and President of three successful brands: Factor 8, providing front-line job training for inside sellers and managers, The Sales Bar, a subscription-based virtual sales training platform, and #GirlsClub, a community and development program helping more women earn leadership positions in sales. Before entrepreneurship, Lauren led multiple sales divisions in the technology sector and then switched hats to building corporate training departments and launching virtual sales programs Globally for IBM and SAP. Today, Lauren and her teams at Factor 8, The Sales Bar, and #GirlsClub are on a mission to change lives by helping all levels of sales professionals feel more confident and more successful at work.
