Nursing Student Clinical/Practicum Placements

Shape your clinical/practicum experience and create a foundation for success

Clinical/practicum placements give you the opportunity to demonstrate your learning, increase your autonomy and build your self-confidence to provide exceptional care to a variety of patient populations across the lifespan continuum. Your support team (the Clinical Coordination Team, a supervising faculty member and your preceptor) work to create a customized professional experience that positions you to become a successful professional nurse.

Leverage clinical/practicum placements to personalize your experience

With a team of support in your corner, Franklin provides you with the freedom to choose a preceptor and/or site aligned with your goals and priorities. Take advantage of Franklin’s relationship with hundreds of affiliated sites nationwide to customize your training to your interests, build a professional network to enhance future career opportunities, plan your clinical/practicum hours around your work schedule or find a location that meets your geographic requirements.

Find your perfect match

The search for eligible preceptors and sites begins well in advance of your first trimester of clinical/practicum courses, often with your first nursing course at Franklin University. You’ll have access to resources including Nurse Town Hall meetings and a list of more than 600 affiliated clinical/practicum sites nationwide.

Once you identify a potential site, you will need approval from the Clinical Coordination Team.

Make the most of your experience

When possible, you’ll be paired with the same clinical/practicum supervising faculty member throughout your clinical/practicum experience – so you can stay on a consistent path for growth and deepen your professional relationships. Your preceptor may change due to clinical/practicum focus; however, preceptors will continue to provide guidance, encouragement – and most importantly, the feedback that will fuel your evolution from student to professional nurse.

You will meet virtually with your clinical/practicum supervising faculty member and preceptor 2-3 times per clinical course to monitor your progress toward meeting course outcomes and competencies. While grades are the responsibility of your clinical/practicum supervising faculty member, your preceptor provides input based on observations of your on-site work.

Get the support you need – every step of the way

Lean on the Clinical Coordination Team for support to ensure you can access the clinical/practicum experience you need. This team will keep you in-the-know with emails and updates about new opportunities available to you, assist you if you have difficulty finding a preceptor or site, and finalize the arrangements for each clinical/practicum experience.
